In Daniel chapter 2, a young man (Daniel) is brought into court to interpret the dreams of King Nebuchadnezzar amidst the court mystics and seances. The king shares what happened in his dream and that night, while Daniel is asleep, God appears in his dreams to grant visions that explain what the King saw. Daniel is asked to do this two more times for Nebuchadnezzar—ultimately prophecying the wealth of the nation’s land that is to come.

This passage in the Bible is widely considered by many mystics and religious puritans today as an extremely supernatural occurrence that testifies to God’s method of direct communication with His people through dream symbolism.

Throughout the Bible, there is a multitude of instances where Jesus himself says that He is the true light, the Bible is a light for all, and that His followers are called to be sources of light.

“Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life'” (English Standard Version, John 8:12).

Historically, the “them” in question was a group of 12 disciples, or students, of Jesus that followed him around learning his philosophies with instructions to carry them on. Today, Christians read themselves in as modern-day disciples, tasked with the role as evangelists to spread light in the world.
